Install and Use Dell OpenManage Server Administrator on ESXi server (not for ESX server)

Sharing a experience of install and use “Dell OpenManage Server Administrator” on ESXi server (not for ESX server):

1. Download zip file (For ESXi 5.0 : OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-7.1.0- 6339.VIB-ESX50i_A00.zip ,For ESXi 5.1 : OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-7.1.0-6339.VIB-ESX51i_A00.zip)

2. Upload zip file to /tmp directory by using filezilla or scp

3. In ssh client, run command: “esxcli software vib install –maintenance-mode -d /tmp/OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-7.1.0-6339.VIB-ESX[Version]i_A00.zip”

4. Reboot the server and the zip file will be removed from the tmp directory automatically

5. in vSphere client, go to Configuration tab, Advanced Settings under Software, UserVars and make sure CIMvmw_OpenManageProviderEnabled set to 1

6. Download Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node (For Windows: OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WIN-7.1.0-5304_A00.exe, For Linux: OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-LX-7.1.0-5304_A00-00.tar.gz) and install on the Windows/Linux client to access OM.

Browse URL : https://localhost:1311. Input ESXi server IP, root/password and check “Ignore certificate warnings”, then click ” Submit” button.(please refer picture)
